Giannini GWSCRA 12 Brazil Series Steel Craviola® Guitar (Acoustic, 12-String) Review

I allready own a professional model Giannini steel string Spruce and Indian Rosewood six string beatuty and I wanted a twelve string to complement it.The Bollivian Rosewood(Morado) wood is wonderfull with a nice bookmatched back and the spruce top is flawless. The back had a few voids in the stain and makes the new guitar look cheaper than it is.There were a few small dings in the headstick and the string set was not up to par with my $1,000.00 (here at Amazon)model.I replaced the strings with D'Addarios and polished the back with Martin Guitar polish a few times and the increased shine made the back look better.Thge guitar plays very well as good as my Brazillian Washburn 12 string and my maple Sigma 12 string. All in all I am very satified with the guitar.$467.00 with a soft gig bag and free shipping made this a good purchase I just wish that I could have had my pick of a few guitars to choose from. The odd shape makes this guitar very comfortable to play.

Ovation CK047 Celebrity Acoustic Electric Guitar (Figured Koa Top) Review

Ovation CK047 Celebrity Acoustic Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The short and sweet version is: the CK047 is a good guitar under any measure; I added the iDea retrofit preamp, and now I have MP3 recording (high quality) and playback (great for jamming!) right on the guitar.I have played for 20 years, and owned a few guitars. I believe I can notice subtleties that differentiate good guitars from plain average. In fact, I went to the store to check an Ovation iDea, but was immediately disappointed... I had never seen a $600 guitar so poorly finished, as the iDea was (what a flop, Ovation, what a flop...) Anyway, that is when I discovered the CK047. I compared the CK047 against a dozen other guitars on the store. The acoustic sound is superior to many brands. This guitar, however, does not have the best acoustic performance; for instance, Taylor is far superior to Ovation... But when it comes to plugged sound, nothing beats an Ovation. Koa wood gives a rich sound that is not very bright (something totally desirable when you amplify). I bought this guitar as a practice instrument for normal wear and tear, while I keep the high-end guitars for recording and occasional jamming. The tuning pegs are standard Ovation (very precise, keeps it tuned). The finish on the top is very well done; incredibly beautiful, and honors the natural warmth of the wood. This guitar is *very* precise: the first harmonic on every fret matches perfectly the note 12 frets below. The action is low and smooth. Now, a note about origin, as it seems to be a matter of interest: The CK047 is Korean. It does not have the aura that accompanies American-made guitars, but the finish is just as high-quality as you would expect from an American guitar (clarification: Celebrities are mid-level models; only high-end models are made in the USA... had I had extra$1,000 I would have bought an American Ovation). Ovation has been making guitars in Korea for a while, and it shows. I compared this guitar against other Chinese celebrities (the koa Celebrity is only made in Korea, though), and I have to acknowledge that Chinese models' finish is of the lowest quality. Warning: AS OF 2008, STAY AWAY FROM CHINESE OVATION CELEBRITY MODELS... they are hit or miss (mostly miss). Out of six Chinese Ovation Celebrity guitars I compared against the CK047, only one had decent finishing and sound. No doubt the quality will eventually increase, but in the meantime...

Breedlove Passport Plus OM/CMe, H-H Guitar Review

I own a Breedlove American Series and Pro Series guitar, and I wanted to have a smaller body as a travel-beater guitar.I'd ordered the least expensive C200/SMP (blemished) from another vendor but to my luck, they had run out and offered me an incredible deal when I asked about the Passport Plus OM/CMe.Intonation is spot on and the setup from Breedlove is perfect.VERY EASY to play.I really don't expect many issues from Breedlove instruments... even the ones that are made in Korea. The sound is a lot bigger than what I'd expect from an OM size guitar.

This little wonder holds its own against guitars three times its price.Makes a great full size travel guitar or for those who just want a great sounding value OM!

I purchased my guitar from Rondo Music through Amazon. The people at Rondo are good people. My guitar arrived with bad strings. I notified Rondo and they apologized and sent me new strings free of charge and shipping right away. The guitar finish attracts attention. Almost everyone that sees the guitar compliments me on how nice the guitar looks. The guitar doesnt sound as good as my friend's $350 yamaha, but the SX DG160VT guitar does sound good and is easy to play.I paid $65 for this full size electric acoustic guitar and I am very happy with my purchase! Good luck to anyone trying to find a better guitar for the money

Yamaha APX900 - Natural Acoustic Electric Cutaway Guitar Review

Yamaha APX900 - Natural Acoustic Electric Cutaway Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Why this is a good guitar
Thinline acoustic-electrics are not known for their acoustic tone, but the APX900's tone is acceptable for at-home strumming and practice and even light sing-along duty. It sounds a little dull acoustically and it's not particularly loud, but that's an acceptable compromise to limit feedback when plugged in. The amplified tone is bright--or it can be whatever you want it to be, from dark and thumpy to incisive, from a laid-back tone to jangly with the mids cut and the bass and treble turned up. Like any acoustic-electric, it feeds back if you get in front of the amplifier or your PA speaker, but a provided heavy rubber soundhole plug reduces feedback.

It's hard to find a mid-priced acoustic-electric thinline guitar that doesn't sound thin or brassy, but Yamaha's unique multiple contact pickups sound better than the typical under-saddle piezo pickups found on most competing guitars. The APX900 is especially nice because it has two additional pickups, one on the bass side, one on the treble, each with a level control on the preamp. So you can customize the bass and treble response to your liking. The onboard tuner is accurate and the electronics package is well thought out. The preamp controls adjust through a very wide range of cut and boost.

The materials and finish of the guitar are beautiful--nice woods, deep gloss finish. The plastic soundhole ring is perhaps a little cheesy, but it prevents damage to the edge of the soundhole from enthusiastic picking. The neck is nicely shaped and the cutaway gives access to the higher frets. The gold hardware is pretty, but superfluous.

Why this guitar needs work
I've sampled enough of these guitars to believe that they all come through with essentially the same setup. The strings are too high at the nut and at the bridge and it's impossible to play anything intricate or fast. Most every guitar in this price range has the same flaw because manufacturers won't take the time to do a proper setup and they can't be sure that a low, comfortable action might not wind up too low once the guitar has been shipped, stored, and finally sold. You generally don't find good setup until the price goes over $1000.

I'm fortunate to have the special files to create deeper string grooves for the nut and the tools to lower the height of the bridge saddle. A proper setup on this guitar makes a world of difference in playability, but it needs more: The frets have a matte finish instead of a mirror finish, and they're somewhat flat-topped. Again, this is common in the price range. A guitar repairman can put the proper rounding on the frets and bring them to a high polish, for another major stride in playability.

The final step is to simply throw away the provided strings and replace them with high-quality strings such as Martin MarquisMartin Acoustic String Combo 3 Pack; M2100 Light Marquis Phosphor Bronze, MSP4100 Light Phosphor Bronze and MSP3100 Light 80/20 Bronze or Elixir Elixir Light Nanoweb Acoustic Guitar Strings. The provided strings are touted as anti-rust, but they are draggy, with much friction under your fingers.

With a good setup and strings, the APX900 competes with guitars that cost $400 to $600 more.

Product Description:
What a guitar! The newest member of the APX family, the APX900 features top-quality flamed maple back and sides and a solid spruce top. It delivers a rich, mature tone, with a punchy projection and a bright, long-ringing sustain. A lush and tonally versatile amplified repertoire comes of a newly designed 3-Band preamp, whose adjustable mid-band frequency covers a broad 80Hz - 10kHz spectrum. This not only allows control over the midrange but enables reshaping part of the low and high bands in addition to the dedicated bass and treble controls.

Washburn OG2CE Oscar Schmidt Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Ok, how did I spend $200 on an electric acoustic, and get such an awesome deal?!! I've always been happy with Washburn, but this is ridiculous. I feel like I still owe them money! I compared this to a friend's $650Ibanez and the action and tone is exactly the same if not a bit better! WOW! The action isn't as comfortable as a Cort I tried at the same price, but the electronics are better and it rings out with tone-to-the-bone much better than the Cort. What's amazing is, I spent just about $40.00 less on a Fender Starcaster which was not electric and was of hideous quality of ridiculous proportions. Acoustically this guitar is a dream, and event though the action isn't "perfect", my hands don't hurt and I can kill every note. The real fun begins when I connect it to any of my amps, add some effects and am in total heaven. Don't pass up this deal. This is quality and fun, through-and-through!
