Godin Montrea Chambered & Carved 2-Voice Jazz Guitar (Natural HG) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)this guitar has nice tone, very good quality for the price range, if i have to choose between Gibson or Godin, i have to pick this one!!
very jazzy/blues sounds especially if you change the stings to 11 or 12 gauge
the acoustic pickup is very useful, you could balance the sound with both electric and acoustic and produce wide variety color.
I would recommend this guitar to anyone!!

Washburn HB Series HB15TSK Electric Guitar Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Like I said in the title, this is a great guitar! And I mean that.

A lot of people will slag on this guitar just because it's a Washburn. While I don't like Washburn guitars that much, I a huge fan of this particular model. It has the look I wanted, plus the sound is thick and warm.It really does sound a lot like those 1920s-1930s "floating pickup" guitars that it is modelled after. The thick neck feels real good in your hands.

There are three different versiosn of this guitar. There's another HB-15 that has the volume and tone knobs on the body itself, and then there's an HB-15 with a single cutaway.Personally, I REALLY wanted the knobs on the pickguard, so that's what I bought. The tabacco burst is cool looking.

I sanded my guitar's neck and body. The neck's so smooth and the guitar looks older, as if it may actually be from the 1930s.The only other alteration I made was moving the strap peg to the neck. Most guitar snobs I know (and we all know a couple) are surprised to hear that this jazz-box is a Washburn.A comporable guitar will run you $600!

The only downsides I've had with my HB-15 is a little buzzing around the fifth fret.I had the fret filed by a luthier (about $10) and haven't had any more buzz since.Oh, it does pay to keep the bridge around the same area, because it can set the intonation off.

Washburn's HB-15 is a GREAT guitar for looks, sound, playability, and affordability.

Luna Henna Paisley Series TLE Electric Guitar - White Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This guitar in white comes with a rosewood slab unlike the picture depictin a maple fretboar. The black one comes with the maple board. The guitar came in a standar guitar box in a box setup. It was fairly loose in shipping and the volume control was a little bit jammed to the pick gaurd, but I was able to pull it straight.
The guitar is a beut with the white matchin headstock and the cedar wood pickguard.
Setup on this guitar was great out of the box but with a little neck and bridge tweek it ended up being a top notch playing instrument. The pickups are as good as any I have played with the tele configuration. The fret job is perfect and the rosewood fretboard is clean and slick. It is a fast neck and captures the tele vibe .

Washburn HB Series HB15CTSK Electric Guitar Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This is a fantastic archtop guitar, and at a very reasonable price. Set-up is great right out of the box. It isn't fancy, but the fretwork is MUCH better than I've seen on other guitars in this price range. The bridge is fitted almost perfectly. Fit and finish is better than I've seen on Epiphones costing twice as much. Acoustically, it is quite loud, with good mellow tone. Plugged in, you have the same sound, but louder. The floating pickup works great for amplified acoustic jazzy sounds. And NO feedback! I turned it up quite loud and nary a squeal. If you're after a twangy electric sound, though, this guitar is probably not for you. The gig bag is okay, but I will be getting a hard case. My only other complaint is that the nut is on the narrow side, about 1 21/32 inches, more like a chunky Strat neck than a Gibson. I'm not sure this is a problem; the more I play it, the more I like it. I've owned and sold six other archtop guitars, but this one is a keeper!

Gibson ES-137 Classic Electric Guitar, Blues Burst Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This model is based on the body of a 135 but playability essentially matches a 335. However, it has some characteristics similar to the Les Paul - notably the locations of the pickup switch and the cable output (both of which I prefer this way as opposed to the other). Because of its mohogany center, feedback is minimal and sustain is good. It has a very broad range of tones that reach not quite as dark and warm as a 335 to not as bright as the LP. It's an outstanding instrument that can play virtually any genre of music. Indeed, versatility is this guitar's strength.

The Gibson ES-137 Classic Electric Guitar

When Gibson's carved-top guitar luthiers in Memphis began building the magnificent ES-137 Classic in 2002, it was an instant success that lived up to its name. The ES-137 is an instant "Classic" because it combines the glories of two classic styles of Gibson cornerstone instruments. Players sang--and still sing--its praises, citing the ES-137 Classic's great feel and gorgeous appearance, as well as its astonishing sonic versatility, from the smooth, round, clean tones required for old-school jazz to the snarl and distortion of cutting edge rock.

The Body Style of the Gibson ES-137 Classic Electric Guitar

The Gibson ES-137 classic electric guitar blends the looks and overall style of a single cutaway semi-hollowbody guitar and the sonic authority of a Gibson Les Paul Classic. It refines the basic design of earlier semi-hollowbody Gibsons by swapping the style's maple centerblock for solid mahogany to increase sustain and reduce feedback at even heavy metal volumes. With its single Florentine cutaway, the ES-137 Classic draws on the heritage of Gibson's earlier ES-135 and ES-175 models for historic inspiration, but sustain, sizzle, and some appealing non-traditional color options make it an absolutely contemporary instrument.Although the Gibson ES-137 Classic also has a custom model, the Classic has plenty of design charm and individuality. It features a top, back, and rims made of visually appealing curly maple on a 16-inches wide, 20-inches long, and 2-inches deep body. The cream binding is multi-ply on top and single ply on the back as well as trapezoid fretboard inlays with the Gibson Custom Shop's world-class Les Paul Classics. But the 12th fret of the ES-137 sports a pearloid inlay "C" to denote its own classic status.

Hardware on the Gibson ES-137

The ES-137 Classic shares Gibson 490 R and 498 T pickups with chrome and gold hardware options, including a Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece. The instrument's neck is sturdy three-ply maple supporting a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlays and single ply binding. It has a rounded profile and a 24-inch scale length and is 1 11/16th-inches wide at the nut. The tuners are Grover keystones. And complimenting the 490R and 498T humbuckers is the classic Gibson dual volume pot, dual tone pot, and three-way selector set configuration. The ES-137 Classic comes strung with Gibson .010 Brite Wires and get a meticulous examination and dressing on one of the Gibson Custom Shop's state-of-the-art Pleck machines, ensuring optimum playability. The ES-137 Classic leaves the Gibson Custom Shop ready to gig--anywhere.

Michael Kelly Patriot Custom MKPCCSB Electric Guitar Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I bought my Michael Kelly Patriot Custom Electric Guitar about a month ago when Amazon had it on sale. I am a fifty-six year old amateur, still taking lessons, but before this my main guitar was an '84 American Strat, so I had a top quality guitar to compare others against.

I was originally looking for a Gibson Les Paul-style guitar to compare against the Strat, and had picked-up a new Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Studio Deluxe Electric Guitar about a month earlier. The Epiphone is a very good guitar, but the machine heads were not great and needed to be changed (I went with Grovers), which brought the total cost of the Epiphone up to the cost of the MK Patriot Custom. The Epiphone is a great guitar to experiment with changing the hardware to see how much the sound and is changed by the successive hardware changes (I will probably change the pickups on it to Seymour Duncan Hotrods sometime later).

The quality of the MK Patriot Custom is way beyond the Epiphone. Nothing wrong now with the Epiphone, but you can FEEL the quality of the Patriot Custom as soon as you pick it up. It is slightly heavier, VERY solid, and has GREAT sustain. The ebony fingerboard is a dream (I feel that the ebony makes for a smoother feel, especially for bends). The sound out of the Rockfield pickups is incredible (right up there with the EMG active pickups on my Strat), and the machine heads that come standard with the guitar are Grovers, so no need to swap out ANYTHING.

The MK Patriot Custom is also a beautiful guitar. I got mine in Cherry Sunburst, mainly because of the video posted on Youtube by a German guitar store (can't understand a word of what the guy is saying, but watch it full screen in HD mode, and you'll see that you don't need to understand German to know that he is impressed with this guitar):
[...]Guitar World also posted a written and video review. Read the review, then scroll down to watch the video: [...]The MK Patriot Custom is an INCREDIBLE guitar right out of the box. Just get you favorite guitar tech to set-up the action the way you like, and you're all set.

So... watch the two videos, read the review, and if you are looking for a top-quality Les Paul-style guitar without having to compromise slightly and go to Epiphone, or pay a huge premium just for the Gibson name, BUY A MICHAEL KELLY PATRIOT CUSTOM NOW, before they get crazy and either discontinue a great product (companies often do that with a great product so that they can increase the price on the cosmetics-only-changed "new product" they then launch), or they just announce an incredible price increase on the product.

I am convinced that Michael Kelly is THE new name in top-quality guitar manufacturers, and that the Patriot Custom is a future classic.

Do yourself a favor and get one.
