(More customer reviews)The Yamaha 112 has an excellent reputation as a beginner's guitar, and I looked to Amazon to pick one up.Amazon sells the full 112 beginner's kit, which is essentially the guitar, gig bag, guitar cable, amp, and pitch pipe.I already have an amp and tuner, so this refurbished model fit the bill -- a guitar, gig bag and cable for a reasonable price.I know repairing/refurbishing guitars in not really rocket science, as every pawn shop and music exchange manager can attest. I assumed that Yamaha was refurbishing customer returns and selling them through Amazon. Naturally I expected that Yamaha and Amazon would do the job right.
Well, I'm sad to report that the job was not done right on the guitar I received.A new Yamaha 112 comes with a chrome tremolo.The Amazon listing for the refurbished 112 confirms that the guitar comes with a tremolo.The guitar I received had NO tremolo.Instead, the guitar has a hole where the tremolo belongs.Nice and classy, huh? How did this get through quality control?I can imagine some teenager broke the tremelo off the guitar, returned it, and Yamaha (through Amazon) shipped it right back out -- to me!
The promised guitar cable was also missing. Just a gig bag and guitar with a missing tremolo.Also, although the package seemed to arrive in good shape, I was surprised to find the guitar has shipped without any outer packaging around the original box. Just 1/8" of cardboard and a few styrofoam spacers between the guitar and the harsh world of a UPS trailer.
Caveat emptor.Refurbished is subjective, it seems. Maybe you'll be lucky, and get all the parts Amazon says you will receive. I was not so fortunate.

(More customer reviews)I compared the Peavey Raptor Plus EXP with a Squier Stratocaster at my local music store.The Squier looked nicer and had a better finish, but in my opinion, Peavey's electronics are far better.This guitar sounds pretty nice and is quite versatile.From a good clean sound, to blues, to jazz rock, to heavy-metal, this guitar can do it all.The Squier had too much noise in the pickups.The Peavey had way less noise and was better-sounding overall.Couple this to a Vox DA5 amp and you have a sweet little electric guitar setup for less than $300.

Peavey's Raptor guitar is a made in China Stratocaster-like guitar.The quality, while not outstanding, exhibits high levels of workmanship.There are some minor finish issues, but the guitar is solid, and sounds and plays good.Like every electric guitar I've laid hands on, it requires a set up when new (about $40 at my local guitar shop).Once set up, the action is great and the sound rivals lower-end Fender Squiers and Mexican-made Fender standards.

The amp included in the package is serviceable, especially for a beginner.It's clean channel is solid, while the overdrive channel is satisfactory.Because it's a solid state guitar, the overdrive has an on/off type of feel and doesn't vary much with playing dynamics.It will get you started, but will leave you wanting more before too long.However, since it doesn't add much to the cost of the package (the guitar typically sells for about $120 by itself), it's a pretty good deal.

If you're interested in picking up an electric guitar to try it out, this is an inexpensive, quality package.

SX EG1K 3/4 WT Short Scale Guitar Package with Amp, Carry Bag and Instructional DVD Review

(More customer reviews)After researching various short scale guitars on the internet, for the value the SX got the best ratings.One place was Harmony Central.While there were mostly positive reviews, I did consider the points made in negative reviews mainly complaining of minor things. I decided to take the plunge and purchase this for my 8 yr old who desires to play guitar.

The guitar received is very nicely finished and great value. I was impressed, as this guitar is made in China. It is actually better made than Fender's Squire Mini, made in the East.The quality is comparable or better than Fender's Mexico made instruments.

The amp was also a surprise--considering that a similar Peavy small practice amp sells for around $60. The amp has several features and over drive, enough for a beginner to get started.

The guitar has a rosewood fretboard on a maple neck with a satin finish. The fretboard was dry so some lemon oil did the trick.While the finish is painted white and the wood below is not visible, the seller states the body is alder.In comparison Fender's Squire Mini web site says the body is laminated hardwood. Also the Fender has a fixed tremolo and 1 volume and 1 tone control.The SX has a moving tremolo and comes with the bar, 1 volume and 2 tone controls.

I was surprised out of the box the guitar did not need much adjustment to the set up.The instrument received was nicely balanced.This is a great value for the price and the quality of the instrument.

The only negative point is the gig bag that comes with the package is thinly padded and not a safe way to store or transport the guitar. I was able to find a well padded 3/4 Roadrunner gig bag at Guitar Center to store and transport the guitar when not in use.

Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack, Black Review

(More customer reviews)You'll find many reviews of this product. Some claim it is the worst of the worst, and some love it.

It is a beginners guitar set, so take it as that. The tones that can be achieved are very clear, and the single coil pickups are actually quite good for a cheap guitar. If you want a cheap 100 dollar ebay guitar, go ahead, the pickups will likely be totally unusable. These are usable.

The tone knobs and wiring inside aren't the greatest, but they do their job. There is some 'scratching' sounds when you rotate a few knobs.

The amp it comes with has some nice beginner features, and the headphone output is a plus.

If you want to learn how to play guitar, this has enough to keep you satisfied until you've learned enough to justify a better guitar or amplifier. The guitar is much better then the amplifier, so i would suggest getting a new amp first (what i am doing currently)

Note: buy new strings for your guitar too! The stock strings arent that great.
Also: Buy a guitar strap that is GOOD. The one it comes with slips off, and i hit the side of my guitar on the CORNER of a wooden table...thank god for paint and super glue.

(More customer reviews)i bought this for christmas present for my seven year old son who has been begging me for two years for a guitar. i was amazed at the quality of this guitar. although my son has not recieved it yet, i opened the box to check on it, and was taken back by weight, (not flimsy), the quality, the polish and shine. it was well worth the money spent on it, in my opinion. i did'nt give it a 5 star, because i have not heard it play, but for a kids guitar, the package is just right, equipment and price
