(More customer reviews)I have a Strat and I've been playing for many years. I also have other Strat style guitars that are high end. I bought this guitar for the kids to learn. However, I find myself playing the guitar a lot. It is a guitar that has decent hardware, a smooth neck that is very straight. It has a great low and "like butter" action. As with any guitar with new strings, the tuning will need adjusting until the strings stretch to the "played" condition. I would put some known brand name strings on it with a size .09 high E. I keep the tremolo bar off for the kids to learn. They do not need this function yet at all. This keeps it in tune much better. I play the guitar through my Fender Twin reverb tube amp and the tone is clean and decent. This guitar can cover all genres from blues to metal. Compared to other manufactures and models in the same price range, it outshines. Seriously, it does stand out. There is little gamble with this purchase and there will be a great payoff.

Refurbished - Yamaha EG-112 Electric Guitar (no amp) Review

(More customer reviews)The Yamaha 112 has an excellent reputation as a beginner's guitar, and I looked to Amazon to pick one up.Amazon sells the full 112 beginner's kit, which is essentially the guitar, gig bag, guitar cable, amp, and pitch pipe.I already have an amp and tuner, so this refurbished model fit the bill -- a guitar, gig bag and cable for a reasonable price.I know repairing/refurbishing guitars in not really rocket science, as every pawn shop and music exchange manager can attest. I assumed that Yamaha was refurbishing customer returns and selling them through Amazon. Naturally I expected that Yamaha and Amazon would do the job right.
Well, I'm sad to report that the job was not done right on the guitar I received.A new Yamaha 112 comes with a chrome tremolo.The Amazon listing for the refurbished 112 confirms that the guitar comes with a tremolo.The guitar I received had NO tremolo.Instead, the guitar has a hole where the tremolo belongs.Nice and classy, huh? How did this get through quality control?I can imagine some teenager broke the tremelo off the guitar, returned it, and Yamaha (through Amazon) shipped it right back out -- to me!
The promised guitar cable was also missing. Just a gig bag and guitar with a missing tremolo.Also, although the package seemed to arrive in good shape, I was surprised to find the guitar has shipped without any outer packaging around the original box. Just 1/8" of cardboard and a few styrofoam spacers between the guitar and the harsh world of a UPS trailer.
Caveat emptor.Refurbished is subjective, it seems. Maybe you'll be lucky, and get all the parts Amazon says you will receive. I was not so fortunate.

(More customer reviews)I compared the Peavey Raptor Plus EXP with a Squier Stratocaster at my local music store.The Squier looked nicer and had a better finish, but in my opinion, Peavey's electronics are far better.This guitar sounds pretty nice and is quite versatile.From a good clean sound, to blues, to jazz rock, to heavy-metal, this guitar can do it all.The Squier had too much noise in the pickups.The Peavey had way less noise and was better-sounding overall.Couple this to a Vox DA5 amp and you have a sweet little electric guitar setup for less than $300.

(More customer reviews)After many years of looking, I finally purchased this guitar on clearence sale after christmas at one of the big national retailers. What finally convinced me that this was the guitar was the quality of contruction.As compared to many introductary models, this guitar is much more solid, hevily built. the nobs and switches are higher quality, especially the knobs which are cheap on into level guitars like First act and some Yamahas. This guitar is seems heavier as well, probably because they actually use solid hardwood for their neck and body as well. Also, it got a great sound to it as well. It is an entry level Washburn (lyon by Washburn), but you will be hard pressed to find a better value on the market. Bonuses with this package is that it is limited edition, contains strap and picks, and an authentic autographed card and poster with the box.This model also has the wammy bar attachement as well. What else could you ask for.Check this one out, a great value.

(More customer reviews)I'm a newbie, have never even held a guitar, so you'll have to take my review with a grain of salt.I wanted a guitar to get familiar with before deciding about lessons and this fits the bill.I unpacked it and it's ready to play out of the box.Hooked it up to Garage Band on my Mac computer and I was playing and recording within 10 minutes, not that I'm playing anything recognizable yet.This guitar is full sized and really looks gorgeous. The red color is really classic looking.The previous review is indeed correct.Both the gig bag and the guitar cable need immediate replacing (they're both thin) and also the strap is pretty cheap.However, it's a great package with extra strings, picks, a lesson dvd.I can't wait to get more experienced on it and could imagine tricking this core guitar out as I get more experienced.Recommended for newbies, beyond that I can't say.

Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack, Black Review

(More customer reviews)You'll find many reviews of this product. Some claim it is the worst of the worst, and some love it.

It is a beginners guitar set, so take it as that. The tones that can be achieved are very clear, and the single coil pickups are actually quite good for a cheap guitar. If you want a cheap 100 dollar ebay guitar, go ahead, the pickups will likely be totally unusable. These are usable.

The tone knobs and wiring inside aren't the greatest, but they do their job. There is some 'scratching' sounds when you rotate a few knobs.

The amp it comes with has some nice beginner features, and the headphone output is a plus.

If you want to learn how to play guitar, this has enough to keep you satisfied until you've learned enough to justify a better guitar or amplifier. The guitar is much better then the amplifier, so i would suggest getting a new amp first (what i am doing currently)

Note: buy new strings for your guitar too! The stock strings arent that great.
Also: Buy a guitar strap that is GOOD. The one it comes with slips off, and i hit the side of my guitar on the CORNER of a wooden table...thank god for paint and super glue.
