(More customer reviews)The Yamaha 112 has an excellent reputation as a beginner's guitar, and I looked to Amazon to pick one up.Amazon sells the full 112 beginner's kit, which is essentially the guitar, gig bag, guitar cable, amp, and pitch pipe.I already have an amp and tuner, so this refurbished model fit the bill -- a guitar, gig bag and cable for a reasonable price.I know repairing/refurbishing guitars in not really rocket science, as every pawn shop and music exchange manager can attest. I assumed that Yamaha was refurbishing customer returns and selling them through Amazon. Naturally I expected that Yamaha and Amazon would do the job right.
Well, I'm sad to report that the job was not done right on the guitar I received.A new Yamaha 112 comes with a chrome tremolo.The Amazon listing for the refurbished 112 confirms that the guitar comes with a tremolo.The guitar I received had NO tremolo.Instead, the guitar has a hole where the tremolo belongs.Nice and classy, huh? How did this get through quality control?I can imagine some teenager broke the tremelo off the guitar, returned it, and Yamaha (through Amazon) shipped it right back out -- to me!
The promised guitar cable was also missing. Just a gig bag and guitar with a missing tremolo.Also, although the package seemed to arrive in good shape, I was surprised to find the guitar has shipped without any outer packaging around the original box. Just 1/8" of cardboard and a few styrofoam spacers between the guitar and the harsh world of a UPS trailer.
Caveat emptor.Refurbished is subjective, it seems. Maybe you'll be lucky, and get all the parts Amazon says you will receive. I was not so fortunate.

(More customer reviews)After many years of looking, I finally purchased this guitar on clearence sale after christmas at one of the big national retailers. What finally convinced me that this was the guitar was the quality of contruction.As compared to many introductary models, this guitar is much more solid, hevily built. the nobs and switches are higher quality, especially the knobs which are cheap on into level guitars like First act and some Yamahas. This guitar is seems heavier as well, probably because they actually use solid hardwood for their neck and body as well. Also, it got a great sound to it as well. It is an entry level Washburn (lyon by Washburn), but you will be hard pressed to find a better value on the market. Bonuses with this package is that it is limited edition, contains strap and picks, and an authentic autographed card and poster with the box.This model also has the wammy bar attachement as well. What else could you ask for.Check this one out, a great value.

Yamaha Gigmaker Electric Guitar Package - Black Review

As a beginner, I cannot claim to know much about guitars, but I did do my research. Yamaha make great musical instruments and this guitar is recommended as a great beginner guitar by several places, including About. The package has everything you need to get started. THE GOOD:
The guitar - One great instrument. The build feels solid and not at all cheap. The strings are close the the fret board which is great. The tuners are very smooth and feel good. The guitar also has 3 pickups and 5 positions which allow you to change up the sound of he guitar from rock to jazz. Basically, this is a really good guitar. And it has two nobs for volume and tone.
The Amplifier - This is a good beginner amplifier. It is small and has 15 watts.It has two channels: Clean and Dirty. Plenty nobs for us beginners to play with: gain, dirty volume, clean volume, treble, middle, bass. Also has a quarter inch headphone jack. Despite what majority might think, 15 watts is enough for just about anything you'll be doing. The 15 watts allows you to turn up the gain all the way up and keep the volume down and still have it sound good.
The electric tuner - a nice little add-on for beginners.
The DVD - great place as any to start. Goes over the basics and teaches several chords.
Other - comes with extra strings :)

THE BAD:
The guitar - none at all.
The Amp - the only bad thing with it (for what it is), is that the headphones jack is a 1/4 inch jack so most of us with 3.5mm standard headphone will either need to get new headphones or adapter to use it. But it is no big deal in my opinion.
The Guitar Cable - it is one cheap cable. Mine broke after 4 days. I also noticed that in the dvd that was provided, the instructor didn't use the cable that was provided but a monster cable, which I found to be funny. You can get a monster cable for pretty cheap here on Amazon, so again, nothing too serious. Order one when you order the guitar so you don't have to wait like I do.
The Guitar Strap - again pretty cheap. It is like one of those run of the mill nylon straps that you see. I am going to invest in a better one but this one will do for most. On a side note, and this is with all guitars. Invest in peg locks. They will prevent the strap from coming off the pegs on the guitar. When putting on my guitar the strap slipped off the peg, but luckily I was holding the guitar very firmly. Again, this is true for all guitars and not just this one.Bottom line: Great guitar, great package, great buy. I am happy with it.

(More customer reviews)This was the first guitar I got and started me in the right direction. This is a well made guitar and plays great. If your a beginner I recommend this one to get. The guitar and amp is what any beginner needs to get started. Also you get picks, a cool instructional video, and a tuner which are all decent items. Even though I didn't get a new guitar yet and am still using this one but I did get a better amp at $150. Really, this is worth the money and is a really great guitar package.

(More customer reviews)I got this beginner guitar pack because it seemed to have everything I needed to start playing. The guitar looks cool and is easy to play. It also has an amp with distortion. It also comes with a CD-ROM that teaches you how to play. It is more of a rock approach to guitar, including songs by Green Day, Nirvana and Black Sabbath. The program starts off teaching different guitar skills and then teaches a song with those skills. Then it will teach a slightly harder guitar skill and another song. It is laid out very logically. I didn't want to spend too much money because I thought guitar might be hard and I might not stick with it. The amp is fine for now but I will probably get a bigger one if I want to play with my friend who plays drums. I need to get a little better first. This is perfect first start though.
