PRS SE Custom 24 Guitar, Black Cherry Review

First of all, it's a Paul Reed Smith! Secondly, if it's good enough for Santana, Orianthi, Chad Kroeger, Mark Tremonti, Ben Kasica, and multiple other amazing electric guitar players, it's good enough for you!

This is the SE version, which means it is a "student edition" and it's affordable. You are not sacrificing quality by purchasing a SE version. They make these and test them similar to the American made versions, but at about a fourth of the cost. These PRS SEs are better made and are held to a higher standard than the American versions of Les Paul Gibsons and Fenders that cost much more. Plus, it's a PRS! It sounds so much better and is THE guitar! This is the top of the line guitar! There is no compromise on quality. The only obvious difference is that the face of the guitar is flat, as opposed to slightly beveled. You are getting one hell of a guitar!

When choosing a guitar, you can read a ton of online reviews, or you can go to a music store and try them out. Go to a local shop and pit a PRS SE against any American Fender or Gibson... you will answer your own question. The PRS SE is the guitar of today. It has an amazing tone and it's very easy to play. Originally, Paul Reed Smith was trying to create the perfect guitar and was trying to outdo Fender and Gibson. He is no longer trying to outdo them, he is trying to outdo himself. His only real competition is his own guitars. He challenges himself and his staff to come up with a better guitar year after year. He isn't trying to recreate old 60s classic sounds and recreate nostalgia. He already accomplished that over 25 years ago with his original guitar that smashed into the market and basically rendered all other guitars moot.

The Custom 24 is the guitar that started it all. It's THE ONE that he handed to Santana backstage in the late 70s that got everything started. It was the first guitar in 1985 to come out of the assembly line when the PRS plant first opened. It is the most playable guitar with the best tone, sound, sustain, and playability. The finish on these guitars is amazing! Slick, shiny, hard, durable, and unblemished. Each guitar comes with it's own number on the back, an awesome gig bag, a bag of spare parts, the tremolo arm (if you buy one that comes with tremolo), and an instrument cable that has a 90 degree jack on one end and a straight one on the other end. One of the most beautiful gig bags I have ever seen. Amazing embroidery! It says PRS in nice big letters. Can you imagine showing up at a gig, studio, wedding, or concert with a Paul Reed Smith? Unbelievable! 30 years from now all anyone will talk about is PRS guitars and how awesome they sound. New manufacturers will be trying to oneup PRS, not any others.

Of course, over the year Paul Reed Smith hasn't rested on his laurels. He has continually been working hard to improve his guitars year after year. Every year he pulls out a new trick or a new added feature. He is competing with himself. While others keep trying recreate nostalgia by re-releasing old shapes and models and new guitars with a worn out look. (like tattered jeans).

If you don't have a PRS guitar, the SE line is very accessible. Lots of online retailers have models for sale in the 300s and 400s. Try looking around (ebay).

If you already own an electric guitar, these are an instant upgrade to ANY guitar you may be playing, except another PRS. Go to youtube and watch demo videos and reviews of these guitars. You will instantly fall in love.

I can't say enough about these. Sure you can buy one of those $100-200 guitar kits if you want to screw around and see if you like this. But if you are serious and want a real guitar, you can't go wrong with a PRS. They maintain their value over the years unlike any other guitar. Each one is a work of art and the best craftsmanship. People still have their PRS's from the late 80s and early 90s and they still sound sweet and are still selling for big bucks!

Buy this guitar! You will be in heaven!

The SE Custom 24

Playability That Won't Break the Bank
Featuring mahogany body, maple top and neck, plain maple veneer, three-piece wide-thin neck, rosewood fretboard and moon inlays, the SE Custom 24 provides utility and quality at a reasonable price.
HFS Pickups
Originally meaning Hot, Fat and Screams, the HFS features a powerful ceramic magnet and hot coils for an aggressive tone when cranked, clear highs, searing midrange and thumping bass.
The SE Custom 24 produces a wide range of tonal possibilities enhanced by a variety of switching options including master volume, master tone, and 3-way toggle pickup selector.
Wide Thin Neck
This neck has a thinner profile front to back than the Wide Fat. This neck is available on many of PRS's 22 and 24 fret models.
PRS Tremolo
Back in 1984, Paul Reed Smith was granted a patent on his tremolo system. The design elements are simple and resemble the traditional fulcrum tremolo but with some important differences that help ensure return to pitch and a lack of tuning instability. All adjustment screws are inset and made of brass, and there are no rough edges. The tremolo arm stays where you put it, and won't wobble or break off.
SE Custom Available Colors
The Custom 24 is available in Black Cherry, Gray Black, and Whale Blue finishes.
Finish
PRS finishes their instruments with a polyester basecoat and acrylic urethane topcoat. Acrylic urethane looks and feels the closest to the old nitro-cellulose finishes but without the finish checking.
The PRS Mission Statement
Guitar building is an ongoing process of discovery. We are devoted to the guitar's rich heritage while committed to new technologies that will enrich our products with uncompromised tone, playability and beauty. Our success depends on our ability to listen, implement positive change and continually refine our craft.

PRS SE Custom 22 Guitar, Tobacco Sunburst with Stoptail Bridge Review

PRS SE Custom 22 Guitar, Tobacco Sunburst with Stoptail Bridge
Average Reviews:

Ok first of all, if this were NOT a Paul Reed Smith I would have to say NO WAY is this an entry level guitar!
It has it all! Tone, feel, tremendous intonation out of the box!
I am not the type of person to gush so much but the moment I opened this thing up I was amazed. When I plugged it in I could not tell whether I was the Korean model or the American (if it weren't for the fact that this is a "flat top")
I only purchased this because it was a "Gold Deal" and I was able to pick up a PRS for under $400. Man am I glad I did. I have owned them all.. Les Paul, many Ibanez RG's, Strats... You can have them! I will put this against a American Strat ALL DAY!!! Not to mention if you gig with this thing it sure is nice to walk into your show with a PRS staring at the crowd :-)
One of the best things about this guitar is it is the ULTIMATE Hybrid! The sustain, tone, and neck of a Les Paul. It has the look of a Les Paul and Strat all in one, and the stock pickups that have the output of 500 and/or 700 (series) Ibanez RG's! For $400???

You can definitely get a better price than Amazon's normal price of $619. If you see this as a Gold Box Deal BUY IT!!! I Promise you will NOT regret it! The only reason I didn't give this guitar 5 stars is the American PRS have the beveled top which is stunning. However I have played them and this flat top is a little more consistent (especially if you are like me and play a lot of harmonic pinches. Oh and don't forget it DOES comes with a gig bag to the the PRS Silkscreen :-)

The SE Custom 22

Playability That Won't Break the Bank

HFS Pickups
Originally meaning Hot, Fat and Screams, the HFS features a powerful ceramic magnet and hot coils for an aggressive tone when cranked, clear highs, searing midrange and thumping bass.
The SE Custom produces a wide range of tonal possibilities enhanced by a variety of switching options including master volume, master tone, and 3-way toggle pickup selector.
Wide Fat Neck
The Wide Fat neck has the same nut width as the Wide Thin neck but has a big comfortable profile, similar to PRS's Regular neck. Because of its strength and longer "heel," the Wide Fat neck produces warm tones with lots of sustain.
PRS Stoptail Bridge
Designed to take full advantage of the resonant properties of their guitars, PRS's Stoptail Bridge provides direct transmission of string vibration to the guitar body and makes set-up a breeze. First used in 1991 on the PRS Dragon I guitar, it now appears on almost half of all PRS guitars sold. This bridge features slots that recess the strings comfortably as they pass over the top, in a gentle curve. Although it is pre-compensated for modern string gauges, fine-tuning is possible by adjusting the set screws at each end of the bridge.

Epiphone Special-II Les PaulPlayer Pack, Ebony Review

Epiphone Special-II Les PaulPlayer Pack, Ebony
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my player pack about a week ago.Everything was included in the pack and "seemed" great.I got the Sunburst pattern and the guitar looks really nice. The amp and the rest of the gear was all good for the price. The problem was that when I tuned the guitar I had to raise the bridge way too much to get rid of some buzzing from the fret bars.Even after that I still got the buzzing when I played vigorously. Also I could feel the edges of the fret bars on the neck which I think means that the wood of the neck had shrunk and probably warped a little (sitting in a warehouse too long maybe). I chose to repair these issues instead of returning the guitar.I like it very much and I doubt that getting another pack at the same price point would get me any more quality. If my experience was not the norm then I would give this pack a 4 or 5.
**UPDATE
The warped neck was unrepairable by the epiphone dealer in my area. They sent it back (warranty) and I got a NEW Epiphone "Dot Studio" as a replacement because it would have been 90 day till they could replace it with a similar model.I really like the "Dot Studio" and it is a nice upgrade. So I got a really nice deal in the end

Schecter Hellraiser C-1 Electric Guitar (Gloss White) Review

Posted by Sherrie Kearney on Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Schecter Hellraiser C-1 Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar is great! I play guitar since 17 years and I tried many brands and models, and I can tell you that this one is something special. First of all, it is a beautiful instrument with a wonderful finish (especially for a korean guitar that are very variable on that point of view) it is very pretty and well designed.

It is important to know that I don't personally much like mahogany guitars neither rosewood fingerboards (I'm a Fender american stratocaster maple neck and ash body fan and owner) but this guitar changed my mind about both woods. The mahogany body is surprisingly light and the neck is fast and pleases the hand.
Now the pickups : Well here is the only black spot. These active EMGs and very nice and not as typed as much EMGs (usually I don't like this brand much, DiMarzio got my heart here). They are pretty versatile especially due to the coiltap system, but they are not as silent as told... These simply doesn't like computers and power supplies that can cause a lot of hum, this can be stressful sometimes. Except that, they are very nice, work well with the mahogany body (and neck) and don't make much noise with a guitar combo.
The playability is wonderful, great access to the 24 frets, the neck is just right pretty similar to my stratocaster's neck, mine may need a little fret job because of some fretbuzz on the low E, but nothing serious.

Overall, this is a light, very playable, great looking, nice sounding cheap guitar. Try it, it's worthy.

PS: Sorry for my poor english speaking, this is not my native language.
