(More customer reviews)I am not a teenager.I bought this guitar because, well, it looks fun!?And maybe a little inspiring on stage!?As for sound, it's what you'd expect from a guitar in this price range.

Interestly, it has a humbucker and a single coil pickup with a three position switch.The guitar is light.It'd be hard to find an airline that would argue about this for carry on - though it still exceeds standard dimensions.It keeps it's tuning a little worse than guitars in the price range.If you are a standard adult, you may find this guitar rides a bit off from your hand position compared to a regular one.

The manufacturing quality in the model I received was acceptable.The unit was made in China.There was a lacquer flaw along the neck which left a small portion unfinished near the fifth fret.Aside from that everything else was fine.

For their approach to guitar design, I give 'em an extra star.I wouldn't call this a novelty.It's a fully-functioning real electric.If you want something unique and fun with comparable performance in the same class of guitar, I say go for it.

(More customer reviews)I ordered this for my daughter's birthday, as it's one of the few guitars out there made for left handed smaller people. It arrived - fine. We opened it on her birthday, and, you guessed it, it was a right-handed guitar. So we sent it back, and Amazon sent a replacement. We opened it up and guess what? Yep, it was a right-handed guitar. So we sent that one back and got a refund. I wish I could review the quality of the guitar, but we never got to play it. If Daisy Rock can't differentiate between left and right, I have to conclude that it's not a very good product.

(More customer reviews)I'm a full-time working guitar player and guitar instructor, who happens to teach a lot of women and girls ages 6-60 (but I also have a lot of male students.)

Although I do own many guitars by other well-known traditional brands, I mostly play Daisy Rock guitars in the recording studio, in live performances and at various pro-level jam sessions in Los Angeles. My students usually see me play a Daisy Rock at lessons. The reasons why I do it is because Daisy Rock makes guitars that have a lot of high-quality features that you'd usually find in much more expensive instruments; they're really easy and comfortable to play, and I really like their mission to inspire females to play guitar.

I first saw the Rock Candy Dark Star at the 2006 NAMM show, and was really struck by how easy and good it felt to play. The satin finish on the back of the neck really helps. My hands are tiny (as small as the hands of some of my pre-teen students), so bending strings and playing barre chords was always a bit of a struggle for me when I started playing. I wish this guitar would have been around when I began taking guitar lessons!

I soon got the chance to plug the Dark Star into an amp... it's a great sounding guitar, especially for rock and harder rock styles. I played in a Led Zeppelin tribute group and played this guitar at shows, since Les Pauls are way too heavy for me and my back. My only cautionary note is that you have to be careful with the satin paint finish, as it scratches easily. Make sure to keep your guitar in the case when you're not playing it, and don't lean it against the wall or do anything else that'll make it fall - but that's common advice regardless of what guitar you play!

Guitar Player Magazine also featured the Dark Star in their Editor's Pick section a couple of years ago when the guitar model first came out. They mentioned how much guitar (=high-quality features) you get for the relatively low price. I love my guitar!

It has features of guitars twice it's price. I know several people who play and no one has had anything bad to say about this guitar. I like having so many sound options, it's light (but not cheap feeling) and has a thin neck I can really get my smaller hands around comfortably.Oh.. and did I mention it's beautiful?
