This was a lot of fun to build. The stock tube it comes with isn't the best. I ended up changing it out with the JJ 12ax7. I haven't taken it to too many shows but I use it at home a lot - it sounds great in my home studio.

Product Description:
Build your own tube preamp pedal built around a 12AX7 tube. Go from clean, warm tone to smooth, real tube overdrive. This kit includes pre-drilled die-cast aluminum enclosure and all parts with easy to follow instructions. All you need to provide is solder and soldering iron. Operates on a 9V battery or AC adapter, which is not included. When completed, this pedal draws considerable current and battery life will be short.

This is a nice amp. The kit was fun to build and the instructions were great.
I am very happy with it, but I had a few issues.
1. The pots are awful, even after a thorough cleaning, they were noisy. I replaced them with some quality pots from AES and now they are quiet as a mouse.
2. The instructions say to file the holes before mounting parts. I did that, but still had problems with bad grounds. Star washers that bite into the paint would be a much better choice than the lock washers supplied.
3. I think the power supply could be better and I will probably make these improvements myself. How about a full wave bridge and some better filtering?
4. The kit comes with no schematic diagram. It is not needed to assemble the kit, but is needed for future troubleshooting and making modifications.
I searched the internet for the schematic and found nothing.

This was my first DIY electronics project so I was pretty hesitant to buy this in the first place. bu t the instructions were easy to follow. I don't like the decal so I didn't put it on. Instead I just painted the box myself. As I said the build wasn't hard and it was pretty interesting too. Great boost for a $25 pedal. All my freinds keep asking me "what brand is that??"
